MEET AELA

Life is hard. Therapy doesn’t have to feel heavy every second.

Creative, collaborative therapy for children, teens, adults, couples, and families navigating trauma, relationships, identity, parenting, and life’s unexpected plot twists.

You don’t need to arrive with the right words or even know where to begin. We can start there.

There is room here for the tears, the laughter, and everything that doesn’t fit neatly into words.

WHO I WORK WITH

You might feel at home here if…

You’re looking for therapy that makes room for complexity, creativity, honest conversations, and the occasional very necessary laugh.

You may be:

✦ Holding everything together and quietly wondering how much longer you can keep doing that.

✦ Carrying experiences from the past that still find their way into the present.

✦ Trying to understand the different parts of yourself, especially when they seem to want completely opposite things.

✦ Navigating relationships, parenting, identity, or a life transition without a conveniently provided instruction manual.

✦ Wanting deeper connection but repeatedly finding yourself caught in the same painful patterns.

✦ Hoping for a therapist who can take your pain seriously without making every session feel unbearably serious.

You don’t need to identify with every word. If something here makes you exhale a little, that’s enough.

BEYOND THE THERAPY CHAIR

Stories have always mattered to me.

I’ve been a Dungeon Master for years, which means I’ve spent a lot of time building worlds, following unexpected choices, and learning that even the best-laid plans rarely survive contact with a determined group of adventurers.

Therapy feels a little like that to me. It isn’t a campaign where I hold the secret map and tell you which direction to go. You bring your history, your relationships, your strengths, and all the complicated parts of yourself. I bring curiosity, creativity, a collection of evidence-based tools, and a willingness to follow the threads that matter to you.

Sometimes our work may involve metaphor, storytelling, play, parts work, or finding a new way to understand an old pattern. Sometimes it means sitting with something painful. Sometimes it means laughing so hard we briefly forget we’re doing therapy. Usually, there is room for all three.

You don’t need to know anything about gaming and no dice are required. But if life has handed you an unexpected plot twist, we can figure out what comes next together.

WHAT WE MIGHT EXPLORE

What have you been carrying or bottling up?

Some things arrive loudly. Others settle in slowly until carrying them starts to feel normal. You don’t need the perfect label for what is happening before we can get curious about it together.

✦ When the past won’t stay in the past

Trauma, painful experiences, and memories that still shape how you feel, respond, or connect.

✦ When your nervous system is always on duty

Anxiety, overwhelm, stress, shutdown, and the exhaustion of constantly preparing for what might happen next.

✦ When different parts of you keep pulling in opposite directions

Inner conflict, self-criticism, identity, body image, and the parts of you working very hard to keep you safe.

✦ When relationships keep finding the same sore spots

Communication, trust, attachment, intimacy, conflict, and relationships that don’t always fit traditional boxes.

✦ When parenting feels like navigating without a map

Big feelings, family patterns, children who communicate through behavior, and the pressure to somehow know what you’re doing.

✦ When life changes before you feel ready

Grief, transitions, pregnancy and postpartum experiences, divorce, and the strange in-between seasons where the old path no longer fits.

Whatever brought you here, we can begin with what feels most present today.

HOW I WORK

The map changes with the terrain.

I don’t begin with a favorite technique and try to squeeze you inside it. People are far too interesting for therapy-by-template and frankly, I would get bored, too.

Instead, we’ll pay attention to what helps you feel safe enough to be honest, curious enough to explore, and supported enough to try something different. We’ll choose the tools together, and we’re allowed to change course when something isn’t helping.

EMDR & Trauma-Focused Therapy

When painful experiences keep intruding on the present, these approaches can help your brain and body process what happened without requiring you to tell every detail perfectly.

Attachment & Relationship Work

Together, we can explore emotional needs, recurring patterns, communication, and what happens when you reach for connection or protect yourself by pulling away.

Parts Work

We’ll get curious about the different parts of you including the anxious one, the angry one, the exhausted one, and the one insisting that everything is completely fine, thank you very much.

Play & Sand Tray

Children do not always process life through conversation. Play, imagination, art, and symbols give them, and sometimes adults, another language for experiences that are difficult to explain.

Person-Centered Therapy

You are the expert on your life. My role is to bring curiosity, honesty, compassion, and the occasional well-timed question, not to take the steering wheel away from you.

Somatic & Nervous-System Support

Sometimes insight alone isn’t enough. We may slow down and notice what your body is communicating so safety becomes something you can experience, not merely understand.

There is no prize for doing therapy the “right” way. We’re looking for the way that feels useful, meaningful, and genuinely yours.
